Every pet and their family are unique, and we take pride in tailoring the service to your needs and preferences. We will discuss everything with you in advance to make sure that we provide the best possible service to you. This page takes you through some of the things that will happen on the day.
Please note that we may be able to facilitate weekend or evening visits with prior notice.
All pets will receive sedation, which includes pain relief, through a tiny needle under their skin. This helps to keep them calm and pain-free, and they will become sleepy over the next 15-20 minutes.
Once your pet is settled and comfortable, and once you are ready, a catheter will be placed into one of their legs. The final injection will then be given, and they will pass away within a few minutes. We will perform some discreet checks to confirm that they have passed away, and we will then remove the catheter from their leg.
This process can take place wherever you feel most comfortable - your pet can be in your lap, on the sofa, in their bed, in the garden, wherever you would prefer. You can be present throughout the process, or you can step away at any time. We will also never rush you - you can take as much time as you need.
There are a number of options, depending on what you would prefer.
Home burial
Some people prefer to bury their pet in their garden. We can provide advice on the requirements for this.
Cremation
We can organise transporting your pet to the crematorium when you are ready. Alternatively, you can make arrangements to take your pet yourself. We work with Pet Cremation Services Ayrshire in Irvine, but there are a number of other crematoriums which you can also choose from.
If your dog is over 20kg and we are organising cremation, we may need help moving them to our vehicle. Please do let us know in advance if help isn't available so that we can arrange for additional staff to come to the visit, or for the crematorium to collect directly from your home.
Individual cremation
Your pet will be cremated individually and their ashes will be returned to you. This can be in a scatter tube or pouch, or you can choose from a variety of other options including caskets, urns and keepsakes.
Communal cremation
Your pet will be cremated with a group of other pets. Ashes from communal cremations are buried in the memorial garden at the crematorium.
Pawprints and fur clippings
We will always take pawprints and fur clippings for you after your pet has passed away, unless you would prefer for us not to.
